Welcome to Bovim Ballet

Bovim Ballet is thrilled to announce that in a first-of-its-kind collaboration between Bovim Ballet and the Playhouse Dance Residency, they will be staging  Sean Bovim’s Romeo’s Kiss at the Playhouse Drama Theatre from 12 – 15 May 2016.

Choreographed by acclaimed choreographer, Sean Bovim, and featuring the dancers from both the Playhouse Dance Residency and Bovim Ballet, Sean Bovim’s Romeo’s Kiss is based on Shakespeare’s age-old story of star-crossed lovers and family feuds in a fast-paced, fresh and innovative dance work guaranteed to delight!

Audiences can expect an unusual and very exciting fusion of classical ballet and contemporary dance for which Bovim is well known, as well as a fabulous mixture of neo-classical music and cover versions of well-known Beatles' hits from Gwen Stefani, Wet Wet Wet, Phil Collins, and many more.

Sean Bovim’s Romeo’s Kiss is set in the modern era, with Romeo as a banker and innocent Juliet from a nouveau riche family. In this funky, hip production, the dancers will be haute couture costumed by Craig Port (male dancers), Malcolm Klûk & CGDT, and Gavin Rajah (female dancers).

Public performances: 12 & 14 May at 19h30 @ R120 each. 15 May at 14h30 @ R120 each.
Schools performances: 13 May at 09h00 and 12h00 @ R30 each – SOLD OUT!!

The show runs for 1 hour and 50 minutes with a 20 minute interval.

Bovim Ballet was formed at the beginning of 2009 as a project based ballet Company with a twist. Coupled with the vision of its Artistic Director, Sean Bovim, this Company has had a meteoric rise, performing from Cape Town to Stellenbosch, Bloemfontein to Sun City, and Durban to Johannesburg. By making ballet entertaining and accessible through the choice of choreography, music and fashion, Bovim Ballet has been able to bring in new audiences, many of whom had no prior interest in ballet. Some of their reactions can be measured through the reviews and unsolicited emails that have been collected.

Although all the dancers are classically trained, this Company is a collaboration of many different talents and dance skills including contemporary, hip hop and musical theatre backgrounds which all contribute to an exciting energy. It is a young dance Company that inspires to stretch the boundaries, experiment with movement and in the process open up the art of dance to a wider audience. All the dancers are hand picked because of their high performance quality and X factor.
